Introductory Blog Post

This blog will be about all things baseball, but more specifically the Yankees. I will cover all big stories and news around the MLB but the bulk of my blogging will be about the Yankees. For example there was a blockbuster trade that was finalized between the Los Angeles Dodgers and Boston Red Sox, the Red Sox sent their MVP outfielder Mookie Betts and pitcher David Price and cash to the Dodgers for two of the Dodgers top prospects. While it is great the the Yankees’ division rival Red Sox have lost a couple huge pieces to their team, the Dodgers are the team the Yankees will most likely face if they can make it to the World Series and the dodgers have been loading up on new talent this offseason. The Red Sox, however have been trading players making big money so they can get under the luxury tax, as this would be their fifth year over the tax, so the percentage of money taxed increases. The Yankees have been following suit with the Dodgers and loading up this offseason, acquiring Gerrit Cole, who has been arguably the most dominant pitcher in baseball over the last two seasons. Along with the return of Jordan Montgomery, and Miguel Andujar who missed almost the entire 2020 season. The shortened sixty game season has been a roller coaster so far but has since smoothed out after some serious doubts came up due to COVID outbreaks.

This is the first post on my new blog. I’m just getting this new blog going, so stay tuned for more. Subscribe below to get notified when I post new updates.

Course Take-Aways

This has been one of the most unique experiences I have had in a class, in a positive way. There are too many classes that are just memorization and mind numbing lectures. This class allowed me to actually create something, and choose a topic I was passionate about which is amazing. One of my biggest take aways from this class is that it is super easy to get your opinion out into the world, I always figured recording and editing was a pretty complicated process that may have some costly software involved, but it really is easy and free if you have a laptop already, or even a phone. My other biggest takeaway is that this field of study was a great decision, there is so much practical advice and skills learned that can be applied to a lot of different aspects of life.

Memes

This is how we I felt after the Yankees game six loss.

But I still feel feel like this thinking about the start of the 2021 season.

And it is hard to forget this.

  1. Two of my memes come from the Houston Astros sign stealing scandal page which was the one of the only baseball related meme pages I could find, they relate directly to the target audience as that was one of the biggest cheating scandals in sports history, let alone just baseball.
  2. Davison says “ideals of memes operate in reverse, the ideal of a meme is the aggregate of all manifestations of that meme. It is a bottom- up rather than top-down organization”. The ideal of the Homer Simpson meme is wanting to be embarrassed or no longer want to be some place or in some situation. The spongebob meme is just a general excitement, and the other Simpson’s meme is generally making fun of a group of people.
  3. All three of my memes come from TV, so the behavior is that came from a written scene by someone that can be applied to many different aspects of life and other specific situations.”any nongenetic behavior be labeled as a meme”(Davison 121).
  4. My manifestations of very popular memes are all specific to the Yankees or baseball, they are extremely popular though, and can be applied many different ways.
  5. As, previously stated they relate directly to my target audience making them directly in line with an interest they have in baseball and the yankees specifically.

Pitch in for Baseball and Softball PSA

  1. Here is the PSA I created for my chosen charity. It describes the Pitch in for Baseball and Softball which is a charity that helps bring youth sports to underserved communities all over the world.
  2. One major thing I took away from Kyle Devine’s article on sound, fidelity, and the “loudness war” is that a large part of what makes a high fidelity recording depends on the context of when and where it will be listened to and for what purpose. So when I was editing the volume and of my background music and the audio of my voice I wanted it to be as such, the background music was merely background music and my voice is what could easily be focused on.
  3. This choice was because the needs of my audience for this PSA are not for this to be listened to loudly at a party, like a lot of music is, but rather to be listened to in the quiet of ones home or some way similar.

Fantasy Baseball Screencast Tutorial

My tutorial is a beginners guide to drafting a successful fantasy baseball team. While the tutorial is specifically for fantasy baseball, there are many principles that can be applied to any fantasy sport you choose to play as people watch it “to assess their abilities and self-confidence” (Wolf). The title and message in my video will allow people unsure of a way to get started in fantasy sports to find the video on youtube, the self explanatory title will make clear what the content is. While Youtube algorithms favor accounts with a lot of interaction the specificity will hopefully get through to someone with the specific questions I address.

Introduce Yourself (Example Post)

This is an example post, originally published as part of Blogging University. Enroll in one of our ten programs, and start your blog right.

You’re going to publish a post today. Don’t worry about how your blog looks. Don’t worry if you haven’t given it a name yet, or you’re feeling overwhelmed. Just click the “New Post” button, and tell us why you’re here.

Why do this?

  • Because it gives new readers context. What are you about? Why should they read your blog?
  • Because it will help you focus you own ideas about your blog and what you’d like to do with it.

The post can be short or long, a personal intro to your life or a bloggy mission statement, a manifesto for the future or a simple outline of your the types of things you hope to publish.

To help you get started, here are a few questions:

  • Why are you blogging publicly, rather than keeping a personal journal?
  • What topics do you think you’ll write about?
  • Who would you love to connect with via your blog?
  • If you blog successfully throughout the next year, what would you hope to have accomplished?

You’re not locked into any of this; one of the wonderful things about blogs is how they constantly evolve as we learn, grow, and interact with one another — but it’s good to know where and why you started, and articulating your goals may just give you a few other post ideas.

Can’t think how to get started? Just write the first thing that pops into your head. Anne Lamott, author of a book on writing we love, says that you need to give yourself permission to write a “crappy first draft”. Anne makes a great point — just start writing, and worry about editing it later.

When you’re ready to publish, give your post three to five tags that describe your blog’s focus — writing, photography, fiction, parenting, food, cars, movies, sports, whatever. These tags will help others who care about your topics find you in the Reader. Make sure one of the tags is “zerotohero,” so other new bloggers can find you, too.
